Boston’s feared “Big Bad Bruins,” led by 24 yr-old Bobby Orr win NHL’s Stanley Cup. The image of Orr, the first defenseman to lead the league in scoring and points, soaring through the air having been tripped after scoring the winning goal is the most iconic in all hockey. Professional hockey in those days was at its most brutal – an apt metaphor for the times and the political approach of Nixon. No helmets, face-to-face fistfights, lots of blood and lost teeth. The adage was one goes to a fight and a hockey game would break out.
