Journalist Rubén Salazar is shot and killed during a rally in East Los Angeles during the National Chicano Moratorium March against the Vietnam War. His killing was often cited as symbol of unjust treatment of Chicanos by LAPD. The marched ended with a rally – the speakers were interrupted by the sheriff’s department firing tear gas into the crowd and opening fire.
