Hughes Bribes AG Mitchell

Danner, Hughes’ bagman (via Maheu) goes to the Justice Department to meet with Attorney General John Mitchell. The moment he signs in with the FBI guard at the front desk, J. Edgar Hoover is alerted of Danner’s presence at the DOJ. Danner had been one of Hoover’s favorite special agents and knew that he was doing dirty deals with Hughes. Hoover also knew that Hughes was above the law. But that didn’t mean Hughes and his money couldn’t be used as a trap for low-hanging fruit like Attorneys General or Presidents.
