Dominican Republic, Nixon, and Hughes Get in Bed

Dr. Luis Gonzalez Torrado (U.N. Ambassador of the Dominican Republic) and President Balaguer played for Meier and Don Nixon a tape recording of Francis Meloy (ambassador) discussing possibly assassinating Balaguer, “…make it look like the communists did it…” Torrado said the Dominicans had proof Meloy was CIA. The proof came from Meier who got Mike Merhige to confirm Meloy was an agent. Don Nixon spoke to Richard Nixon about this. Don later told Meier that’s the last time he does anything like that – try to blackmail the CIA. It really pissed off the CIA. Meloy was transferred away from the Caribbean theatre – (Meloy was later assassinated in Lebanon.) Bebe Rebozo asked Robert Maheu and Richard Danner (Hughes employee) to order Meier to stay away from Don Nixon. Or to get Hughes to order Meier to stay away from the impressionable, bumbling, Donald. Both the CIA and the Secret Service had full cover on Meier and Don Nixon because Hoover refused to help Richard Nixon. Hoover believed that Don was not the idiot brother, but that Richard used Don as cover and as a patsy.
