Tony Curtis, Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, Shirley McClaine are given network variety shows but they all bomb. The next year, Julie Andrews is given a show but because she never appeared for free on her “friends” variety shows when they were desperate for segments and guests, there is an unofficial boycott of guesting on her show.
